Jim retired from the Bureau of Labor Statistics as a Mathematical Statistician and is active in local and international volunteer organizations. Since 2002 he has helped Able & Willing International Education Foundation (AWIEF), a non-profit based in Maryland, to build schools in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), where he has taught and helped to build the school computer lab. In his home community of Jefferson, Maryland, he has lead a variety of projects to benefit the environment. He helped to organize the Frederick Peace and Social Justice Network to help coordinate efforts in Frederick County, Maryland, to promote peace and social justice.
