Board Members

Please welcome two board members, Greg and Colette Ram, who joined in May, 2013.

Mbuyu “Puma” Wa Mbuyu, President & Co-founder, is a master electrician in Puma MbuyuWashington, D.C. Every year since 1994 Puma has organized the AWIEF projects in the Democratic Republic of Congo in the summer while pursuing his job in the United States during the rest of the year. He is a recipient of the Ron Hering Mission of Service award from the Mankind Project for taking action to live his mission in the world.

 

Richard Emeni, Vice President, grew up in Cameroon where he received a degree in Richard Emeni3Economics and Statistics before coming to Maryland. He earned an MBA from American University and has professional experience in radio, TV, Internet and print media. His vision is to use his IT skills to improve health, business and farming systems in Africa.

 

James Carpenter, Treasurer and Chief Geek. Jim’s professional background is in math, Jimstatistics and information technology. He has been active in his community for 30 years in energy and environment issues. He has traveled to the Congo four times with Puma since 2002 to build computer labs and teach.

 

Shannon Murphy, Secretary, holds a masters degree in physical therapy and owns a ShannonMurphyprivate practice near her home in Boonsboro, MD. She has long been inspired by Puma’s commitment to sustainable and meaningful change and offers a business perspective to the Board. She is also an amateur photographer.

 

Mamadou Dia grew up in Mali with a love of farming. His dream is to improve the Mamadou Dia-s2traditional farm system in Mali. He has devoted much of his life since 1994, when he moved to the U.S., to working on his dream. He lives in Arlington, VA and returns frequently to oversee farming projects.

 

 

Maggie Nato Lusweti is from Kenya and is currently a Microsoft Certified Systems MaggieEngineer, working near Baltimore. She has a master’s degree in International Trade and speaks Swahili and Spanish. She is married and mother of two boys. Maggie is organizing Able & Willing’s efforts to help schools in Kenya.

 

 

Greg Ramm was a US Peace Corps volunteer in Kandale, Zaire (now DRC) from 1981 to Greg Ramm1983. He taught Math and Physics at a local secondary school. Greg has worked extensively on development and humanitarian issues in the DR Congo and throughout Africa. He was Director of Global Programmes for Save the Children UK in London until 2012 and now Vice President, living with wife, Colette, and children in Bethesda, Maryland.

 

Colette Madishi Ramm grew-up in Kandale, Zaire (now DRC). She taught at the local Colette Rammprimary school in 1982 before serving as head of the Peace and Reconciliation Commission in DRC. She has also worked at the US Peace Corps Volunteers Center and with the United Nations in Kosovo, Kenya and Senegal. Colette speaks six languages and holds a Masters in International Community Economic Development from Southern New Hampshire University at Manchester, USA.

 

Charles Schultz is editor of our newsletter and a master electrician in Washington, D.C. ChuckHe has a degree in English with experience in publications and, like Puma, he has an Eagle Scout background.
